Official Synopsis
BECOMING is an intimate look into the life of former First Lady Michelle Obama during a moment of profound change, not only for her personally but for the country she and her husband served over eight impactful years in the White House. The film offers a rare and up-close look at her life, taking viewers behind the scenes as she embarks on a 34-city tour that highlights the power of community to bridge our divides and the spirit of connection that comes when we openly and honestly share our stories.
Our Impression
Would it be wrong to say I have Mrs. Obama’s book, got through a few chapters, and then stopped reading it? Mind you, it isn’t a boring book by any means, and reading about her life was as interesting, if not more, than other autobiographies we’ve read. It’s just, reading is as consuming as a phone call. It’s not something you can do while multi-tasking, and while she has produced an audiobook, which she won a Grammy for, by the way, audiobooks just don’t click for me.
So there is a hope that, for those who may not be the strongest readers or who aren’t into audiobooks, this can give you the quick version of her story. Thus illuminating the masses that just because she was the woman behind a former president, it doesn’t mean, by any means, she has any desire or plans to live in his shadow. Especially since, to the point I got in her book, she was well accomplished before him and was no slouch before or after he got into politics.
