Quick Recap
So, what’s up with this hex? The answer: Brad was mad at Ruby after they hooked up a few times, and she dismissed it as nothing, so he met Janelle after an event, talked to her, and being that Janelle’s family is into the dark arts, she hexed Ruby. Cool, so can she undo it? No.
The only thing that can happen is Ruby transferring it to someone else which seems like a wonderful idea, but AJ reminds Ruby that transferring the curse is not taking responsibility for why she got the curse in the first place. With this in mind, Ruby decides just to watch movies and eat on Richie’s loveseat for the rest of the day, and showing she hasn’t learned much; she doesn’t really check in on him having his first day at a new job. Instead, it’s about her still, and even with how selfish she is, Richie delivers a speech that makes it sound like a love confession.
Unfortunately, Isaac shows up just before and creates a love triangle situation. Now, how did Isaac find Richie’s home? Well, consider this: Before going to find Janelle, Isaac was told everything, and while he didn’t believe it, he liked Ruby enough to see if what she said was true. So, he learns everyone is dying and even sees one die firsthand. Despite that, he doesn’t run from but to Ruby, and now Ruby finds herself in an unexpected love triangle.
Oh, and Zack is trying to win AJ back, and his online friends and over 300,000 followers seem to push him to do something AJ would like rather than what he would like to win her back.
New Character Descriptions
Janelle
Brad met Janelle while drunk and crying over Ruby. She, too, was having a bad day, and hearing how much of an effect Ruby had on Brad, she put a Hex on her. This Hex wasn’t just a bunch of words, either—from what we’re told, Janelle’s family does have dark gifts, and it seems, sans Ruby transferring her hex, Ruby will be stuck with it till the end of days.

Review
Trajectory (75/100): Decline
While the last episode did give the show a moderate pop, Brad is no Aubrey, and the whole hex thing feels like a bit of a letdown. Also, while Richie and Isaac may deliver these wonderful monologues, I can’t say either potential relationship is worth investing in. In my mind, Ruby has barely progressed to needing, never mind deserving, a good relationship. Yes, 18 people died, and I’m sure that is traumatic, but has she learned any lesson? Has there been growth?
To me, how she has acted with Richie thus far has shown she is still the same person; it is just that she is being shamed into trying to be better since her actions are really biting her in the behind. I’d even say that the more we see Zack, the more I get why AJ keeps both in her life. They are weird and exciting, and they consume all her time. Seemingly just getting that kind of attention and being brought along, that perhaps was all she needed.
But as shown, it is one thing when Ruby ghosts other people and is selfish to others, but it is a completely different thing when it happens to AJ. So, in a lot of ways, maybe everyone is getting what they deserve.
Highlights
- Wonderful monologues from Richie and Isaac
On The Fence
- The Hex Thing Makes Sense, But Also The Backstory Feels Meh
- No Real Investment In The Love Triangle
- No Investment In Zack Getting AJ Back
