Recap

I Can’t Live Like This Anymore: Danny, Bobby

With losing Leigh and breaking his hand, Danny only has Bobby left, and she gets real with the boy. She questions how he is handling things and pressing him to do something. So, as Matt recommended long ago, he goes to therapy.

Who Was He To You?: Leigh, Nina

Danny got Leigh’s mind all messed up, and it leads to her confronting what really happened between Matt and Nina. The answer? Nothing. Nina notes Matt made her feel special, seen, and his absence definitely left a hole in her life, but nothing physical, romantic, or anything inappropriate happened.

Yet, even with hearing that, Leigh went into her usual mode of trying to claim every bit of grief there can be for Matt and lashing out.

This Feeling Of Being Trapped: Amy, Leigh, Jules

Amy noting she needs her freedom.
Amy: I need to get free.

While Amy returns due to being asked, it seems as soon as she steps into her house, she is ready to leave again. Hence her talking about selling the house, giving Jules the studio, and maybe venturing out to France next. This, as you can imagine, leads to Leigh and Jules thinking she is having another breakdown, but Amy pushes the idea she is having a breakthrough. If not thinking, when it comes to the house, maybe the studio as well, it is a cage.

Mind you, not just a cage for her but her children. To keep them close, she used that house to have them remain close to her, and seeing what it may have done, possibly stunted her children, she wants them to know freedom. Granted, with Jules taking over the studio, but that seems like something that can wait till she gets back, like her girlfriend.

So, with that, Jules gets a blessing to go find her mother, her people, and then there is Leigh. With Leigh, she recognizes, like everyone else, she needs a change, but to what? For her, Matt was her change and what made her a better person. However, when he died, she believes she buried the best part of her person with him, so while there is this idea of going away like Amy, maybe joining Jules, it seems she realizes that all she would end up doing is running away. Leading to her seemingly staying and trying to figure out what is going on with her life.

Highlights

Danny Going To Therapy

Danny in therapy.

Anyone who finds themselves punching a wall got anger issues, and, at this point, it seems Danny has been suppressing decades of anger at his mom, dad, his brother, and pretty much anyone who came across his path. Heck, all things considered, the fact he didn’t find a reason to be mad at Jules or hold a grudge against the girl who robbed him is a surprise. Yet, it seems he finally found some form of rock bottom, realized he hit it and is ready to move forward.

Jules Finding Her Roots

It isn’t clear how they may handle Jules’ search for her mother, but considering she is the only member of her family who doesn’t seem to go into a manic/depressive cycle nowadays, you have to hope for the best. After all, while very much a Shaw, you can tell Jules feels like something is missing and has tried to fill that up with the studio, her girlfriend, whatever she could, for a long time. But now she is facing the fact the only thing that could plug that hole is knowing who she is, or could have been, if Amy never adopted her.

Leigh’s Breakdown

Leigh being consoled by Amy.

Something Leigh may not have done yet. For in lashing out against Nina, we see the same pattern that hits her over and over again. This possibility that she may have finally had a breakthrough, but then this demon inside her lashes out. The one which must have all the pain, all the misery, and unlike Danny, whose misery loves company, Leigh’s wants to drown in it without interference. That is, unless it’ll make you feel sorry for her.

So while she hasn’t really touched group therapy, or individual, in a long time, it seems she may need to go back. For as much as these essays have provided some clarity, there is a need to question if they are helping her move forward or keeping her looking back.

Amy Ready To Start Her Next Chapter

Does Amy seem to still be a bit all over the place? Yes. However, with the way she is talking, it has been a long time since she has clarity and seemingly wants to jump on it before it is gone. Hence her trying to think and do whatever is needed to make sure she can maintain this feeling. So with Jules gone and Leigh in flux, knowing she too needs a major change, it should be interesting to see what happens next for the Shaw women. Especially since their safety net is about to be gone.

  1. I just finished watching it and I am at a loss. I can´t believe it ended this way, with Leigh being so broken. I mean, I sort of get it, it’s the kind of pain that will never leave her, but still, that last minute felt like an odd way to end a story, and I usually like odd endings, but in this case I wonder if they were counting on another season and then WandaVision happened. Cheers!
