Javier (Bruno Bichir) & Gloria (Fernanda Urrejola)

Character Introduction

First Noted In: Season 1 Episode 1 “Pilot”

For 23 years, Javier and Gloria have been in the United States after leaving Mexico, with Emilio, across the 100 degree August heat. Since then, they have had 4 more children, the most recent one, Rafa, who is less than a year old, and also, together, they have run a business, a restaurant, for 18 years. A place where they have hired other people who were immigrants – including those who were undocumented.

Additional Information About Javier and Gloria

  • 1: We’re told Javier and Gloria left Mexico with just around $50 between them and that they were Lucia and Beto’s age, which is 16. Thus making them in their late 30s or early 40s.

Character Introduction

First Noted In: Season 1 Episode 1 “Pilot”

Emilio, who also goes by Milo, is a DACA status person whose dream is a mix of not becoming like his parents, alongside making it big with his band “The Natural Disasters.” However, with his parents getting deported, Emilio finds himself having to step up in ways beyond what he was used to when it comes to his family. Which is a bummer for him since he is in his late 20s, has his own place, is a bit of a whore, and changing that up to worrying about his younger siblings doing well in school or taking care of a baby is a lot. Yet, while Emilio may not have been reliable or consistent before, as it becomes clear if he doesn’t it could mean the family splitting up, he steps up.

One half of the Acosta twins, Lucia, aka Luce, is considered the brains of the family, with little sister Val following close behind, but with her parents’ deportation comes changes. She makes a friend who is a bit alternative and into the party scene, and that leads to the more reserved Lucia becoming a bit more mature. Something which her former wild child older brother tries to rein in.

Character Introduction

First Noted In: Season 1 Episode 1 “Pilot”

Lucia’s brother, who is very much her opposite. From small things like not speaking Spanish, unlike most of the family, to being more active in sports and neglectful of his schoolwork, Beto definitely stands out. But, let it be noted, not necessarily in a bad way. For example, when Emilio decides not to keep the restaurant going, Beto, alongside Valentina, try their best to keep the staff informed, paid, and all roles filled.
